Year 8 French Curriculum Outline: Seymour College
As with many schools, there is a lot of discussion around ACARA and how to implement the Australian Curriculum into existing systems. This is the case for Seymour College, especially in year 8 French. The problem is that French is only available to students from year 8, where as the ACARA outline begins at year 7. So the question is 'what do we study and when?' With this in mind I attended a PD afternoon in which we discussed ways to reshape the current curriculum to meet the ACARA outlines. The main focus was how to fit 2 years of work into one, and which topics could be included into the year 9-10 band without causing too much disruption.
This proved to be a difficult task, as everyone needs to agree on the necessary topics that should be taught at year 8. The main problem was that some members of the group had an issue with ACARA itself. At the end of the day whether or not we agree with ACARA it's the direction we're all heading in. As such we need embrace it and work in into our curriculum and unit plans.
I found this time to be extremely eye-opening. I now have an understanding of the requirements outlined by ACARA for year 7 and 8.
