What kind of teacher am I?
The way that I teach has a lot to do with my thoughts about life and community. I believe that life is about connections. The connections we make with our family, friends, colleagues, neighbours and even strangers form the backbone of our lives. Through these connections we form communities. My classroom is a little micro-community and in it I aim to make a connection with every single student. I try to lead by example; I am kind, warm respectful with my students and it is an expectation that they will do the same for me and their fellow classmates. I generally like to think about my class as a team, we're all working together towards a common goal, I'm just there to coach and support them. So far my students have responded well to this teaching style.
I feel as though teaching comes fairly naturally to me, this could be for many reasons, I think my ability to communicate, understand and connect with people from different backgrounds is one of the contributing factors. As a child I always wanted to play 'school' with my toys and sister, so there's always a chance that I was just meant to follow this path.
